It may be surprising to realise, that the thoroughbred Spitfire and the – some would say – ungainly looking Walrus, were actually built by the same manufacturer, Supermarine. However, appearances can be very deceptive. In RAF air-sea rescue operations during WW2, they made a formidable pairing. The Spitfire guided and protected whilst the Walrus rescued aircrew from the sea and returned them to safety.
