REFLECTIVE MOMENTS – As the aircrew walk to their Lancaster for yet another dangerous mission over occupied Europe, one can only wonder what thoughts are running through their heads. Would they survive this night?
No doubt, the Captain would have asked his crew to stay sharp and perform their tasks to the best of their abilities. An extremely difficult thing to do in the cold atmosphere high up over Germany when you’re being shot at!
One thing is for sure, minds will be concentrated on doing their duty and trusting that they return home safely. Tragically many crews made the ultimate sacrifice during the Second World War, so that we could live in freedom. We remember all air and ground crew for their skill, courage and willingness to serve.
